The Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center
I remember one of my favorite places to go in high school was the Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center in downtown Minneapolis. The Jenny Holzer benches used to be my favorite thing. During a visit today it was great to see how it had grown, both physically wider and taller, encompassing more city blocks and the trees touching higher in the sky. It was exciting to see new work from Dan Graham and they still had one of my favorite pieces from the original opening of the park in 1988, "Prophecy of the Ancients" by Brower Hatcher.

Gizmodo's Shooting Challenge: HDR
I've been intrigued by the idea of HDR (high dynamic range) photographs for a long time. It's always seemed like something that should be so much easier for a camera to be able to see more like the human eye when looking at a scene with a bright sky and shadows with details, but usually it's a sacrifice of one for the other. While HDR has it's limits as well (having to shoot on a tripod for one) it's ability to create unbelievable images is really cool. Check out Gizmodo's HDR Shooting Challenge, while some of the images are too "pretty", it's great to learn what people are shooting with and how they put their images together. I'm excited to try out the Photomatix software AND the idea of using a RAW file as 3 separate images to recombine was an entirely new concept to me!

Video: An iPad Photography Portfolio
I was excited about the idea of someday having an iPad portfolio but as Zack Seckler points out in this video about his there are some limitations, specifically the size of a print portfolio compared to large photo prints. Still a cool idea to show video, etc...

The Deadliest Catch Returns
Just as I was getting so excited for the new season of The Deadliest Catch to start tomorrow, I was stunned to learn about the death this past february of Captain Phil Harris. He was always an amazing character to watch on the show and I am saddened to learn that he is gone, may he rest in peace.
